Latest Work: Silver Jewellery

The work above has been created using traditional silversmithing techniques and modern materials such as silver clay. The leaf ring has been created using a leaf texture mould from a sage leaf from the garden. The leaf pendant is both silver clay and sterling silver sheet with a patina for effect and colour. Both have been textured.

The round earrings are textured and then domed. The wires were heated to form balls that are part of the design.

Both the pearl and the sea-glass marble have been wire-wrapped.

Little Pots of Colour

I have been having some fun designing some “Little Pots of Colour”.

These little terracotta pots have been sitting, abandoned in my cupboard for about a year… waiting patiently… for some inspiration.

[I have also completed one larger pot with a palette of green, white and pale pink.]

Preparation

The pots have been sealed with either modge podge, gesso or an ”ornament sealer” spray.

Painting

I have added metallic acrylic paints and basic hues to the pots as the fancy took me.

Details

  • Lots of spots and dots and flowers and leaves (and curly elements).
  • Highlights on some of the pots has been also added using white paint pens.
  • Finished off with an acrylic paint sealer (spray). Will see how they hold up (“a watch this space” moment).

What next?

I have decided that making these is very relaxing (but time-consuming, depending on the design and paint used). I have also been thinking that I might like to make my own little pots from ceramics and paint and fire them (…Yes, yes, I know. Jack of all trades – master of none :-).

  • Note to self: more investigations and research required!
  • P.S. It has been so long between buying the little pots and painting them that I can’t remember where I bought them from. I will be keeping an eye out for more.

I am looking forward to gifting these with little plants in them (e.g. marigolds in the orange pot).

Leaves

I love leaves – I particularly love the diversity of gum leaves. That may sound strange but I am referring to the stages that a gum leaf goes through when it ages- the changes in colours and the way they disintegrate over time.

My next 100daysof series will focus on #leaves.

Where we live there are many large gum trees. See the images below for some of my work featuring gum leaves.

This first piece is an early design – a sterling silver pendant, textured and in the shape of a leaf.

Stripes and Unfinished Business

100 days project 2021

Today’s gift tag is created using the stripes from a leftover veneer – stripes on an teardrop base. The writeable part of the tag has a dusty pink acrylic layer with delicate white and yellow flowers.

Unfinished business – earrings

The ‘unfinished business’ is a pair of earrings that have been waiting for inspiration since December last year. I had the base and top layer made from polymer clay. I have been experiementing with how to combine metals and wire wrap into my polymer clay work.

The Result

Earrings: A layer of polymer clay stripes. Hammered silver between the base layer and the stripes layer. Then the three sections are attached with wire and seed beeds to anchor the three layers together.

Hearts

Today is Valentine’s Day. It isn’t a day that I celebrate but in keeping with the theme of the day, today’s #100days post is about hearts.

This is a heart peg built on a wooden base. I have used mixed media to create it – souffle pens, alcohol inks, acrylic paints and heat set gem. I like the grunge effect from the alcohol inks.

I have also decided to make some gift card bases, so that I am able to create ‘one step ahead‘ (for at least a month) in this challenge.

The following images are of the items I have created using the heart as a theme.

Delicate Pinks

Flowers and delicate pinks – inspiration results in a pale pink garden ornament (bird), bowl and gift tag.

Despite not really being a ‘pink’ girl, I do seem to make a pink of art and jewellery with it. It enhances the palettes I work with and some of my favourite pieces are designed with the shades and tints of pink.

Today’s gift tag came from a piece of work that I have been thinking about for at least a year. It was the creation of another piece that inspired me to actually work on the blue bowl with the blends resulting from the pale pink bird garden ornament.

Greens

I have always been drawn to specific colours. I went through a phase of only wearing purple clothes or yellow, green or black clothes . I still wear a lot of black clothes but love colourful scarves and wraps.

I still find myself predominately drawn to purples and greens.

Day 12 is about the greens.  I am surrounded by green. I love walking in the rainforests. Green is such a calming colour.

This piece is a predominately green gift tag – polymer and alcohol inks.
